Dear Dan Hammer,

It is fantastic to read your reply for my questions. You might have noticed in the media that Nitric Oxide is being projected as a gaseous viagra. Now I understand its role.

Recently, one doctor came to me and informed me that he has produced a solution organically. If we spray 3 or 4ml of the solution in drinking water, when we consume 2 liters per day, it reduces the blood sugar level. However, he is not able to say what is in his product and how it reacts. He has no scientific definition about the product. But, some of my friends say, when the use the water their health is improving. Have you heard anything about a material generate NO?

Hi Venkat!

Thank you for the comments and questions. We can increase NO (nitric oxide) in our body by providing the endothelium with the key amino acids and antioxidants it needs to improve its function. Specifically, you need to increase your intake of the amino acid L-arginine and L-citrulline. You need at least 5 grams of L-arginine to get a therapeutic increase in NO production. This typically lasts for 30 minutes to 2 hours. If you include at least 250 milligrams of L-citrulline this will increase your nitric oxide production to 24 to 36 hours. The reason why is L-citrulline recycles L-arginine in the body so that your endothelium can continue to produce nitric oxide. I've several other posts on this blog that specifically talks about this and I've several YouTube videos that details this even further.

While NO will not control diabetes it will help to repair the damage done by high blood sugar. Blood sugar causes oxidative stress or damage to the endothelium. This damage over time reduces the ability of the endothelium to produce sufficient quantities of nitric oxide. This then leads to cardiovascular complications which is the main health issue causing most of the degenerative diseases associated with diabetes. When you properly nourish the endothelium with good sources of L-arginine and L-citrulline you help reverse this damage by helping to again produce proper levels of nitric oxide. One of the health benefits of nitric oxide is its ability to repair damage done to the endothelium.

No one can give you a product that contains nitric oxide because it is a very short lived gas. What they can do is provide you with the necessary amino acids and antioxidants needed to help nourish the endothelium for proper nitric oxide production. Whatever you use make sure that it contains both L-arginine and L-citrulline. Both of these amino acids should be in pure form from a fermentation process. I believe that ProArgi-9 Plus is the best of the one on the market and it actually has clinic data to back up its effectiveness. Dan

Thanks Bert,
Here are two additional articles on the Acid/Alkaline balance that you should find helpful:
http://www.aging-no-more.com/acid-alkaline.html
http://www.aging-no-more.com/acid_alkaline.html
Many think that your Acid/Alkaline balance is central to the disease process. Your diet plays a huge role. I hope the additional articles will be of value to you.

Harrison,
Thanks for the input. You are absolutely right that there are natural herbs and therapies that can help keep a healthy glucose level. I will be putting up a new post that deals directly with this issue. However, underlying to all of this is the need to repair and nourish the endothelial cells to improve their ability to properly produce nitric oxide.

Hello I enjoyed your post. I believe that it is vital when talking about diabetes to at least mention natural therapies that have been proven to be efficient in managing high blood glucose. Several natural herbs can be including in a diabetics treatment that may help keep a healthy glucose level.

Hi Dan,

I have become so fascinated by how often Acidosis plays a part in so many different conditions and diseases. Thanks for making it clear how it is such a huge part of Diabetes and especially liked how well you explained the importance of the Acid/Alkaline Balance. Thanks!

[...] Diabetes - According to Dr. Holick, children from Finland who received 2,000 IU of vitamin D a day during the first year of life and followed for 31 years reduced their risk of developing type 1 diabetes by 88%. Dr. Holick goes on to say in a recent interview “In terms of type 2 diabetes, the beta islet cell that makes insulin has a vitamin D receptor. Active vitamin D stimulates insulin production. There is evidence that vitamin D may be directly acting on fat cells to improve insulin sensitivity. Therefore, vitamin D plays a role in insulin production, as well as enhancing insulin sensitivity and is a likely explanation for one of the studies I cite in the book (The Vitamin D Solution) that there was a 33% reduced relative risk of developing type 2 diabetes for men and women who had the highest vitamin D intake.” [...]
